Meet Sean Melnick of S.E. Melnick Digital Imaging in Bucktown
Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Melnick.
Sean, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been retouching professionally for about 21 years. Born and raised in New York, I went to the School of Visual Arts in New York, and fell I love with photoshop.
I’ve coached, taught and trained photographers in the art of photo retouching and enhancement, worked with start-up boutique companies and served in key positions with major advertising firms.
I have extensive experience in the advertising and promotion arena. Specializing in High-End Photoshop Retouching, Image Manipulation and Color Correction. I thrive working with creative teams and bringing concepts to fruition.
About 6 years ago, my wife and I moved to Chicago, and relocated my studio. Over the last few years getting my name recognized here with clients and advertising firms, was not easy, but slowly becoming more of a “go to” person for retouching needs, as I was in NY. Has it been a smooth road?
Not always smooth, changing locations and cities has made it difficult, leaving the areas of being well known, to starting over from scratch, and trying to become a ‘household name’ again. There are still slow periods, where I am wondering when the next job will come through.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the S.E. Melnick Digital Imaging story. Tell us more about the business.
My company specializes in Creative Retouching. We can create something from nothing, or manipulate a photo or model into something totally different.
I have done models from Victoria’s Secret, food retouching for Wendy’s and McDonald’s, product and advertising shots for MillerCoors, and PepsiCo Brands, sports photography for the NY Mets, and Topps Trading cards, all the way up to intensely detailed Beauty Shots for Harley Davidson Motorcycles.
What sets SEMDI apart, is that we can do it all. We are never afraid of a challenge, and will always have a happy customer at the end of the project.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I’m hoping to grow exponentially, bigger clients, steadier work, and hire more employees and quality retouchers.
